Where do boat charters leave from in Grand Cayman?

Short answer: the departure point depends on the vessel and your plans, and it is confirmed for each charter. Many North Sound trips, including those to Stingray City, start from docks and marinas on the Sound's western and southern shores, while some begin on the north side near Rum Point and Cayman Kai.

Grand Cayman's main boating area is the North Sound, a shallow lagoon of roughly 35 square miles sheltered by a barrier reef. Its western and southern shores are lined with marinas, canals and docks that connect the Seven Mile Beach corridor, George Town and West Bay to the Sound. On the far side of the lagoon, Rum Point and Cayman Kai have docks of their own.

This page describes those places so you know what to expect. It is not a list of where Yachts Cayman departs from: we coordinate charters with vessels that keep their own berths, and your quote names the meeting point for your date. If one of the places below appears in your confirmation, you will know roughly where it is and how to get there.

The western and southern shores

01

Cayman Islands Yacht Club

On Governors Creek, on the North Sound side of the Seven Mile Beach corridor. Local boating guides list it among the island's main marinas, and the Port Authority lists a Yacht Club Channel among the Sound's named channels.

02

Camana Bay harbor

The harbor at Camana Bay, the 675-acre development that runs between Seven Mile Beach and the North Sound. Visit Cayman mentions boat trips from the harbor to Stingray City, and shops and restaurants are close at hand for anyone waiting or eating afterward.

03

The SafeHaven area

A stretch of North Sound waterfront near The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman property. Past local reporting described a dock here used by tour operators heading to Stingray City. We have not verified current arrangements, so treat the name as a location reference only.

04

Harbour House Marina

At the end of Marina Drive in Prospect, on the southern side of the Sound. Local guides describe it as a full-service marina known for maintenance, and the Port Authority publishes a Harbour House Channel among its named channels.

05

Barcadere Marina

On North Sound Road, on the southwest shore of the Sound right next to Owen Roberts International Airport. Local boating guides describe it as a full-service marina with haul-out facilities.

06

Morgan's Harbour

In West Bay, once known as Batabano Barcadere and a boating hub since the late 1950s, with a ramp, a dock and waterfront restaurants. Its public dock was damaged in 2021 and repairs were reported to have begun in December 2025, so check its current status.

The north side: Kaibo and Rum Point

Across the Sound, Kaibo Marina sits on Water Cay Road at Cayman Kai, beside a beachside bar and restaurant that is popular with boaters. Starfish Point is at the end of the same road, and Rum Point is close by. If your plans center on the north side, or you are staying nearby, ask whether a north-side start is practical for the vessel offered.

The Rum Point dock is used by some operators as a departure point, and the beach club makes an easy place to wait. A yacht meeting you here depends on the vessel, the operator and the conditions, so it is arranged only when it is part of your confirmed quote. Our Rum Point and Starfish Point guide covers what a north-side day can look like.

George Town harbor and the cruise terminals

George Town is a tender port. Cruise ships anchor offshore and passengers are brought ashore to the Royal Watler, North or South terminals, each about five minutes from the ship by tender, according to Visit Cayman. In rough westerly weather, ships may use Spotts on the south coast instead.

These terminals are where cruise passengers come ashore and where the taxi stand is. They are not a promised pickup point for private charters, many of which operate from the North Sound side of the island. If you are arriving by ship, how you get from the terminal to your charter is confirmed as part of the quote. See our guide for cruise ship visitors for timing advice.

Why it matters

How the departure point shapes your day

Two charters on the same vessel type can feel quite different depending on where they start. These are the three things we weigh when we suggest a meeting point.

Which side of the Sound

A start on the western or southern shore puts you on the same side as the Seven Mile Beach corridor and George Town. A north-side start puts Rum Point, Kaibo and Starfish Point on your doorstep. Stingray City and the Sandbar lie out in the Sound, toward the reef.

Getting to the dock

Your transfer is part of the day. Marinas tucked into canals or beside the airport can take longer to reach at busy times than a map suggests, so we factor in where you are staying before suggesting a plan.

The route between stops

The departure point, the vessel's draft and the wind all influence the route. Parts of the Sound are very shallow, so the captain chooses the path and the order of stops on the day.

Getting there

Getting to your departure point

Taxis are the simplest option for most visitors, and there is a taxi stand at the cruise ship dock. If you have a rental car, remember that Grand Cayman drives on the left and uses roundabouts, and ask about parking when you receive your meeting point.

The public bus terminal is on Edward Street in George Town, next to the Public Library, with services starting around 6 am. Owen Roberts International Airport is about five minutes from downtown George Town, according to the Airports Authority, and Barcadere Marina sits right beside it.

We do not publish drive times between hotels and marinas, because traffic varies, particularly on West Bay Road at busy times. When you tell us where you are staying, we take the transfer into account when we suggest a plan.

Your arrival checklist

Marinas can be confusing on a first visit, with several docks, gates and car parks. Before your charter, make sure your confirmation answers each of these.

  • The exact meeting point: the marina or dock name, plus the slip, gate or landmark to look for.
  • Parking: whether there is parking and where, if you are driving.
  • When to arrive: the time to be at the dock, which may be a little before departure.
  • Who to call: the captain's or operator's number for the day.
  • Accessibility: steps, ramps and how boarding works, if anyone in your group needs help.
  • What is on board: towels, snorkel gear and refreshments only as confirmed in your quote.
  • Weather plan: how you will be told if conditions change the plan.

Questions and answers

Departure Point Questions

Getting to the right dock, at the right time, with everything you need.

Where will my charter leave from?

It depends on the vessel offered and your plans, and it is confirmed for each charter. Many North Sound trips start from marinas and docks on the Sound's western and southern shores, and some start on the north side near Rum Point and Cayman Kai. Your confirmation gives the meeting point, the time to arrive and a contact number for the day.

Can we board from our hotel or villa dock?

Only if it is confirmed for your charter. We do not promise pickups from hotels, resort beaches or private docks, because it depends on the vessel, water depth, access, local rules and the property's permission. If your villa has its own dock, tell us when you ask for a quote and we will check whether it is practical. Our villa guest guide has more on this.

Is there parking at the marina?

It varies from place to place, so ask when you receive your meeting point. If you are driving a rental car, we will pass on any parking details the operator provides. Many visitors take a taxi to the dock, which removes the question altogether.

How early should we arrive at the dock?

Your confirmation will say what time to be there, which may be a little earlier than the departure time so everyone can find the boat, meet the crew and settle in. Leave extra time for traffic, particularly if you are crossing George Town or traveling along West Bay Road at a busy time of day.

Can cruise passengers be met at the cruise terminal?

We do not promise a pickup at the Royal Watler, North or South terminals. They are where tenders bring passengers ashore, and the taxi stand is at the ship dock. How you get from the terminal to your charter is confirmed in your quote. Always follow ship time, and plan a generous margin before all-aboard; read our cruise passenger charter guide before you book.

What is Camana Bay harbor?

It is the harbor at Camana Bay, a 675-acre development between Seven Mile Beach and the North Sound, with shops and restaurants nearby. Visit Cayman mentions boat trips from the harbor to Stingray City. Whether the vessel offered for your date uses it is confirmed in your quote.

Is Morgan's Harbour open?

The area itself, in West Bay, remains a boating hub with waterfront restaurants. Its public dock was damaged in 2021 and, according to local reporting, repairs began in December 2025. We cannot confirm when that work will be complete, so if Morgan's Harbour comes up in your plans we will check the current situation for your date.

Can the yacht meet us at Rum Point?

Sometimes. Some operators use the Rum Point dock, and a north-side start can make sense if you are staying nearby or want a day around Rum Point and Starfish Point. It depends on the vessel, the operator and the conditions, so it is only arranged when it is confirmed in your quote. By road, Visit Cayman puts Rum Point about 45 minutes from most hotels and the cruise terminal.

Which docks are closest to Seven Mile Beach?

Several marina areas, including Governors Creek and Camana Bay harbor, sit on the North Sound side of the Seven Mile Beach corridor, so they are on the same stretch of the island as many resorts. Which one is closest depends on exactly where you are staying, and the dock used depends on the vessel. We take your location into account when we quote.

Is boarding accessible for guests with limited mobility?

It depends on both the dock and the vessel: some docks float and others are fixed, and boats board by steps, a gangway or a swim platform. Tell us about any mobility needs, including wheelchair use, when you request a quote, and we will ask the operator what is possible before you book. We will not assume accessibility that has not been confirmed.

What should we bring to the dock?

Your confirmation with the meeting point and contact number, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, swimwear, a light layer and any medication you need. Towels, snorkel gear and refreshments are only on board if they are confirmed in your quote. Our charter planning guide has a full packing list.

What if we are running late?

Call the contact number in your confirmation as soon as you know. The captain may be able to wait, but lost time cannot always be added on at the end, because the vessel may have another booking or conditions may change later in the day. Any late-arrival terms are set out with your quote.
